Hi my name is Lucien Cooper and welcome to my personal page. Here you can see my work in the portfolio section, a little bit about me and if you wish to contact me, there's a page for that too. Also check out the links pages for people I have worked with or have links with. Thanks for visiting my page, I appreciate it :)
A games website that I own and run. It uses a database and premade php scripts.
This was used to help me understand more about PHP and how it can be integrated with a
database. I enjoyed runnning this, uploading new games people requested, and sending messages
out to people about new updates etc. The administrative side of this project was very enjoyable.

A video tutorial I made to help the xbox and pc community, over 200,000 views!
I made this video out of boredom, I knew how to do something, and then it struck me...
how many people actually know how to do this, I'm sure there are many PC gamers who
prefer a console controller? So I used a screen recorder and a webcam and went
through a tutorial. People have been very greatful and I get lots of positive
feedback.

This is a database I'm currently developing for my IT coursework and the company. It is near completion and I am very proud of it. It has many complicated validation checks, a good amount of VBA code and a beautiful GUI! Can't wait to finish it.
This is a simple webpage to help students understand some basic
html related to search engines. It display examples of HTML scripting
and how a search engine reads certain parts. It worked well as the students
could follow the instruction onscreen and see how the intstructions were made
too!

This was a shoutcast integrated radio station where I played
music to the world through a web browser. It worked perfectly
and managed to pull in a few listeners. This project was purely
for my own entertainment and joy out of making it. I gained valuable
skills from it and hope that i can put them to use another day.

I'm currently a student at John Port School Sixth Form studying, IT, Biology and Geography. I have a keen interest in computing and enjoy producing websites, graphics, applications and tutorials for my peers.
My interest in computing goes back to an early age, starting whilst still in primary school. For as long as I can remember, I found the subject of great interest which I believe is from having an inquiring mind and a need to understand in detail how the technology worked. This early interest and expertise was put to good use through having family members with virtually no understanding of how to use a computer. Consequently, I became the computer "expert" of the household with, at this stage, my knowledge primarily being gained through my own personal endeavours. The content and structure of this course appeals to me because I am interested in gaining an in-depth knowledge of the broad range of interrelated topics. As an example of the many transferable skills that I have gained, I produce webpages for other students to help them understand the principles of hypertext mark-up language and how search engines work. In addition, I create my own relational databases, fit to be used by organisations, and have designed and constructed my own websites using specialist software (Serif WebPlus). I enjoy developing my knowledge and understanding of spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel, writing out formulae and creating user friendly interfaces that work well. I particularly enjoyed coding a website which acted as an online broadcasting station, streaming music to anyone visiting it via a web browser. I am currently uncertain as to which aspect of computing I would like to focus on in the long term. However, I am hoping that my chosen path will become clear though successfully undertaking a university degree course. What I am certain of, however, is my desire and commitment to stay at the forefront of the technology. At Sam Creative Ltd, I undertook work experience for one week as an assistant graphic designer. This involved working with Apple Macintosh operating systems to develop the brand identity for a music CD contents. More recently I have been appointed to create and populate a comprehensive database system for a company called Hackwood Farm, to enable it to implement a series of marketing campaigns. This input is raising the awareness of the business, leading to increased turnover and profit. The next phase of this project is to assist the company in developing an online shop selling their full range of products and services. Through these two projects I have learned to work within a team environment and gained a basic understanding of how IT can contribute to the success of a business. Hence I consider that I have developed a comprehensive range of skills that will enable me to successfully undertake this course. In addition to my proven capabilities in computing, I feel that I have developed a mature approach to my work and life in general. I rise to any challenge that is presented to me and work well both on my own and also within a team environment. This is demonstrated by my on-going achievements in the Army Cadet Force, where I have progressed through the ranks and have recently achieved the rank of Lance Corporal. I take responsibility willingly and am efficient in finding solutions and completing tasks. This experience has enhanced my self-confidence and I am proficient in teaching and leading others. Outside of my academic work, I lead a full social life enjoying: Target shooting, badminton, tennis, dog walking, bush craft, country walks and international travel (France, Portugal, Holland and India (October 2011). I am confident that the successful completion of a university course will provide me with the expertise and life experience skills necessary in order to provide me with the best opportunity of securing full-time employment within my chosen subject.
